• Division of Geo-Spatial Data Analysis and Crime Mapping

Division of Geo-Spatial Data Analysis and Crime Mapping focuses on the geo-spatial data analysis and crime mapping in criminal justice and criminology fields. Geo-spatial data analysis is an approach to apply various statistical analyses to data with a geographical / spatial information (e.g. addresses, ZIP codes, XY coordinates, census boundaries, hotspots, Kernel density, distances… etc.).  Crime mapping is a method to visualize, map, and analyze crime/incident patterns using GIS (Geographic Information System) with which professionals can display, manipulate, query, analyze and edit the spatial data through digital sources. Criminologists, criminal justice scholars, and practitioners who are interested in these areas are all welcome to share their ideas, exchange concerns, and develop practical/scholarly outcomes through the division.

 

• Division Report for 2018-2019

본 학술분과는 범죄 및 형사정책 기관들(경찰, 법원, 교정)의 다양한 지리-공간 데이터를 활용하여 복잡한 범죄 현상의 패턴을 분석하고 예측하며, 효율적인 형사정책의 개발과 범죄 이론의 발전에 이바지하고 있습니다. 매년 미국범죄학회 연례 모임 시 패널세션/라운드테이블 세션을 가지고 있으며, 연중 분과원들 간의 아이디어 공유 및 문제해결을 위한 커뮤니케이션을 활성화하고 있습니다. 2018년 ASC 학회에서는 Criminogenic Places, Neighborhoods, and Their Interaction Effects on Street Crimes 라는 주제의 라운드 테이블 세션을 통해 두 개의 연구 논문들, 1)Testing Place in Neighborhood Theory 과 2) Conditional Effects of Criminogenic Places on Street Robbery)을 발표하고, 이에 대한 데이터 활용방법, 연구방법론, 그리고 연구결과 활용에 대한 심도 있는 토론을 가졌습니다. 본 학회에서는 이 분야의 전문가인 김문선, 박성민, 김영안 교수가 토론자로 참여하였고, 외부에서는 Drs. Rustu Deryol (University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee), Halil Akbas (Troy University), Haci Duru (SUNY-Brockport)가 토론자로 참여하였다. 본 분과는 2019년 한 해에도 분과원들의 공동 연구를 권장하고, ASC 기간을 통해 연구 성과를 함께 공유해 나갈 예정입니다.
