• Division of International Criminology and Macro-Level Analysis

Division of International Criminology and Macro-Level Analysis intends to foster both qualitative and quantitative research and exchange of information concerning criminology and criminal justice in an international perspective. A cross-national study of violent crimes, such as homicide and sexual assault, and fear of crime are primary targets of the division. Additionally, the division provides a forum for comparative studies focusing on the criminal justice system, including law enforcement, victim assistance, correctional system, sentencing, and punishment among multiple countries.

 

• Division Report for 2018-2019

본 Division은 2018년 동안 적극적인 활동을 하지 못했습니다. 그러나 2019년에는 이 분야에 관심이 있는 분들을 찾으면 같이 연구정보도 공유하고 공동연구도 진행할 생각을 하고 있습니다. 이에 관심 있는 분들께서는 이 Division에 같이 참여해 주시기를 부탁을 드립니다. 간략하게 설명을 드리면 본 Division은 범죄발생과 형사사법제도 측면에서 복수의 국가를 비교하는데 초점이 맞추어져 있습니다. 범죄유형은 살인범죄를 주로 많이 다루지만, 어떤 범죄라도 상관이 없습니다. 국가를 unit of analysis로 사용하는 경우도 있고 그렇지 않으면 두 개 국가이상의 범죄의 발생률이나 형사사법체계를 비교하는 방법도 많이 이용되고 있습니다. 재미한인범죄학자들께서는 미국과 다른 문화를 이미 경험을 하셨고 다른 분야에 비해서 이 분야가 연구가 덜 되었기 때문에 개척할 수 있는 분야는 아주 많다고 생각이 됩니다. Gary LaFree, Steven Messner, 그리고 Richard Rosenfeld 같은 저명한 범죄학자들도 다수의 국가의 범죄통계를 이용하여 이론을 검증하고 있습니다. 이 분야에 전혀 연구경험이 없는 분들이라도 관심만 있으시다면 같이 참여해서 서로 도움을 받았으면 하는 바램입니다. 전돈수 교수 (Auburn University at Montgomery), dchon@aum.edu
